Ken and Marla Stout were born and raised in Indiana in the same American Baptist Church. Ken pastored ABC churches in Indiana for twenty years before taking a call to serve the Ministers and Missionaries Benefit Board in New York City. There, he initially worked in Communications, photographing and interviewing retirees, writing for the denominational publications, and establishing retiree gatherings. After a few years, he shifted into field staff for MMBB and worked with active and retired pastors in the West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Delaware regions. Part of his responsibility as a field staff representative was to help pastors and spouses prepare for retirement. Meanwhile, Marla taught high school English and humanities and served as adjunct faculty at Seton Hall University. She was active in the music programs at the churches they attended and with the Fellowship of American Baptist Musicians. The Stouts have two sons living with their families in NH and FL. After twenty-four years in the NYC region, Ken and Marla retired to New Hampshire where they spend much time following their grandchildren’s activities. They enjoy volunteering for their local public library, and also have enjoyed being MMBB’s retiree visitors in NH, VT, and CT.
