Willard Walden Christopher Ashley, Sr. is the Vice President of Community Relations, Director of the Center for Clergy Care and Tenured Associate Professor of Practical Theology at New Brunswick Theological Seminary (NBTS).  Ashley was the first African-American to be named Dean of the Seminary at NBTS a position he held for five years. Willard is the CEO of Dr. Willard Ashley, Sr., LLC, Montclair, New Jersey. Ashley is the founder and senior pastor of the Abundant Joy Community Church, Jersey City, New Jersey. He is a board member of Andover Newton Seminary at Yale Divinity School; Vice Chair, Bergen County Human Relations Commission, and a New Jersey State and Nationally Certified Psychoanalyst. He conducts career counseling for clergy as a member of the Center for Career Development and Ministry. Ashley is the co-chair of the Interfaith Anti-Racism Coalition in the Greater New York City Metropolitan area under the umbrella of the People’s Institute for Survival and  Beyond. Ashley teaches  numerous graduate and certificate courses on self-care, psychotherapy, leadership, disaster response and  community engagement.

Willard Ashley and his interfaith colleagues won over $1.2 billion dollars in federal lawsuits to clean up toxic waste in Hudson County, New Jersey. Following the tragic events of 9/11/01, the American Red Cross, United Way and September 11th Fund, hired Ashley to design, organize, and implement the largest clergy resiliency project in America, The Care for the Caregivers Interfaith Program, A Ministry of the Council of Churches of the City of New York.

Ashley was a staff psychotherapist at The Riverside Church, New York City. He hosted a weekly program on Black Entertainment Television (BET) and was a regular on the radio in New York City. Ashley works with senior level executives and law firm partners as an executive coach. Memberships include: National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis, American Association of Marriage Family Therapists and the American Group Psychotherapy Association. Ashley is listed in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the World.

Willard Ashley is the proud father of one son, Chris and happily married to Tanya P Raggio, MD, MPH, FAAP. Tanya is board certified in pediatrics and preventive medicine. Together they have a new addition to the family, Serafina, an 11-pound Shih Tzu who rules the house.
